    I purchased your code from “” and am having trouble getting this to work on a Joomla 3 site.

    I have all the code installed and updated for my db and files.

    NOTE: “MYWEBSITE” is not the actual url. I just didnt want to post all the info below and risk being hacked. I am happy to PM or Email you the website url.

    For instance:

    my links:

    ” onclick=”updateReferer(this.href);”>Download your PDF Sample File

    at the top of index:
    < ?php include_once("secdown/functions.php"); ?>
    < ?php dbconnect(); ?>

    i also noticed this on your example page: (does this need to be in the head?)

    define(‘URLTOFILES’, ‘’);
    my db is setup and the info there is correct

    Additionally the .htaccess file instructions you provided are not working, I can still access a file directly:

    my .htaccess file which is in the “secure” folder
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/~secure/ [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^$
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ [R,L]

    Can I place the downloadable files “below” the root instead?

    Thank you for any help with this.

    please check if allow_url_fopen (fopen for urls with http) is permitted in your php.ini or .htaccess settings.

    the general.js is to be included so that you have no script errors, the script still works.

    For htaccess the url to the downloadable file should be accessible by download.php however, it should not be accessible when accessed directly. I will suggest to use this solution from

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERRER} ! [NC]
    RewriteRule ^download\.php$ – [F]

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !yourdomain\.com [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !alloweddomain\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule .? – [F]

    I will be glad if you can share results.

    Placing the files below docroot can be a very good solution, however this option is not yet available with “Secure Download Links” script.

    Although adding this option will rule out the option to access files placed on another server, it will be good to have, I am planning to add this in a future upgrade.

    Let me know if you will need me to troubleshoot this on your server..
